Branes Wrapped on Spindles
Jerome Gauntlett (Imperial College)
Abstract: We discuss a new landscape of holographic SCFTs associated with branes wrapped on a spindle. A spindle is a specific two dimensional orbifold: a two sphere with quantised conical deficits at each of the poles. We construct solutions describing the wrapped branes in gauged supergravity and then uplift them to D=10 and D=11 supergravity. Remarkably, supersymmetry is not realised by the standard topological twist and, furthermore, in some case the higher dimensional solutions are free from all orbifold singularities. For the case of D3 and M5 branes wrapping spindles we calculate the central charge of the CFT that arises both from the gravity solution and from a field theory computation and find exact agreement. For the case of M2 branes there is an interesting connection with D=4 accelerating black holes.
